AIT Laboratories is a leading forensics laboratory in the nation and meets the highest standards for analysis and security. Backed by the most state-of-the art instrumentation, including the UPLC coupled with Time-of-Flight mass spectrometry, AIT’s specially trained personnel provide superior testing for our clients.
The samples we process are compliant with the following regulatory agencies:
Specific PanelsAIT offers economical groupings of screening tests to detect the presence of specific drugs or drug classes, including barbiturates and opiates. In addition to the screening tests, these panels also include a second confirmatory test to provide unambiguous identification and quantitation of specific drug(s) or chemical(s). View AIT’s comprehensive list of panels.
Customized TestsAIT recognizes that some cases may require identification and quantitation of drugs and chemicals that are not part of the comprehensive panels. As such, AIT’s research and development group is continuously developing and validating new methods for drugs and chemicals to meet the needs of our clients. If you require analysis for a specific drug, chemical or drug panel not found in our test catalog, please contact our Client Services Department at 800-875-3894 or clientservices@aitlabs.com for further assistance.
Trace AnalysisIn addition to testing routine specimens of blood, urine, serum, and plasma, AIT Laboratories also provides analyses on hair, bone or tissue biopsies, meconium, nails and vitreous fluids. AIT provides identification and quantitation of unknown substances such as pills, powders, syringes, liquids, and trace substances.
Specimen TypesThe selection of appropriate specimen types in forensic toxicology investigations is often a major factor in determining the nature and extent of chemical or drug involvement as a cause of death. View AIT’s table of useful specimens for death investigations.
Forensic KitsTo assist our forensic clients, AIT provides comprehensive kits that include all of the containers necessary for routine specimen collection. In addition to the specimen containers, the kits also contain everything necessary for shipping and paperwork to ensure that all important chain-of-custody is maintained. There is a standard kit and an expanded kit:

Case Studies: “It’s rare to see someone in their mid-twenties just drop dead.”Tom Leamon didn’t know what to think. The Stephenson County, Illinois, coroner who also works as a paramedic was part of the ambulance team that responded to a call on June 1, 2007, from John Smith*, the owner of a cattle farm in Orangeville, Illinois. Smith requested emergency assistance for Gordon Blakefield*, 25, a member of his staff who had fallen ill on the job. He called 911 after learning of a text message Blakefield sent to his wife, which simply read, “Help.” Read full case study.
"We used to have our own lab, but our case load was increasing at an alarming degree, and we weren’t able to hire additional staff to take care of the increase in toxicology testing due to budget constraints. We were getting behind 6-8 weeks on toxicology reports and we needed a solution. After a lengthy study, it was decided that we could outsource our specimens and save the commonwealth of Kentucky a considerable amount of money. We’ve been with AIT a little over a year now, and it is has been a wonderful change that we benefit from greatly."
