For students preparing to graduate from college and enter “the real world,” nothing is more valuable than experience. A successful internship provides a unique glimpse into a career path and allows future members of the workforce to apply their skills in a new environment.
AIT believes in providing meaningful work experiences to qualified students eager to think outside the box, meet new people, and find their professional voice.
And while interns work hard at AIT, they also play hard. Social activities have included a corn hole tournament, an Indianapolis Indians baseball game, and a team-building exercise at Indiana Beach.
Internships are possible in every area of the company all year long, but AIT’s highest demand takes place in the summer in the following areas:
Interns are paid hourly and typically work 40 hours a week during the summer. There are also limited opportunities in the fall, winter, and spring for local students.

Testimonials
Anisha Gohil, Saint Joseph’s College"I spent a summer interning in AIT’s Research and Development (R&D) Department. My projects included reworking the method for extracting amphetamines and opiates from meconium and developing a method for salvia, a powerful hallucinogen with dissociative effects.
Before coming to AIT, I didn’t know a lot about extractions or instruments like triple quadrupole detectors, but now I can set up a method and design an extraction. I have learned so much about the process of testing blood, urine, and meconium samples and also about different types of drugs. When one of the toxicologists reviewed a forensic case, he sat with me to explain how he interprets test results and what the results mean. There were many times when I realized that what I just did in the lab was something I had learned about in one of my classes.
I’m planning on going to medical school, and I think this internship has provided real-life applications that will help me understand chemistry better and remember the concepts longer."
Jenny Burke, Indiana University"As an intern at AIT, I worked for the Human Resources Department developing a model for an employee wellness program. This included planning wellness-related activities, researching employee programs already in effect, and figuring the costs and savings that a wellness program might offer.
When it came to gathering research for my project, the AIT staff was incredibly helpful. I was given a large amount of wellness information and placed in contact with people who worked for businesses with successful wellness programs. I had the opportunity to present my findings and ideas to a large group of employees, which eventually led to the creation of a full-time wellness manager position.
Through my work as an intern, I was able to lay the foundation for what was to become AIT's corporate wellness program. AIT gave me the opportunity to run with my own ideas and create my own programming during my internship, and I now have the ability to put this planning into practice as a full-time employee. The internship helped to lead me on a career path focused on my goals and gave me a better understanding of future opportunities. Interning at AIT was an amazing experience, and I am so lucky to be able to extend a great summer project into a full-time career."
Katie Lennox, Indiana University, Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP)"I had the incredible opportunity to work as an intern in the Marketing Department at AIT Laboratories. My project was to perform a critical analysis of the Web site and propose changes to improve navigation and functionality. Throughout my summer-long experience, I was exposed to all aspects of the company. I also had the unique opportunity to work cross functionally with people in all parts of the business and enjoy a number of company-sponsored events ranging from Wellness Month to leadership luncheons and an intern appreciation trip.
Aside from getting to work with wonderful people including corporate executives, I learned an incredible amount of information in a short period of time. Prior to my experience at AIT, the only knowledge I had of toxicology was gained from popular television shows, but by the end of the summer, I could hold intelligent conversations with any of AIT’s toxicologists."
