DRUGOGRAPHY

Oxycodone is primarily used to treat chronic pain, especially for patients who have adverse reactions to morphine. It was first synthesized in 1916, a few years after the German pharmaceutical company Bayer stopped mass producing of heroin due to addiction and abuse by patients and physicians.

Pain Management

You can't base medical decisions on instant-device testing alone

When it comes to traditional urine drug testing using instant or point-of-care (POC) devices, most tests are designed to detect high concentrations of drugs typically observed in addicts and abusers—the kind of test you expect to produce a negative result. However, while these methods are successful in detecting drug abuse, their cut-off levels are not appropriate for monitoring patient compliance. Learn more about what your instant device is missing and review the AIT lab data that supports this.

In other words, a negative result on your instant device isn’t always proof of non-compliance.

Compliance monitoring within a laboratory environment is the most reliable way to detect low levels of drugs commonly found in patients who are compliant with prescribed medications—the kind of test you expect to produce a positive result. Read AIT's article in Practical Pain Management about the effectiveness of pain management testing/compliance monitoring conducted in a laboratory setting.

AIT wants you to make decisions based on good science. That’s why our lab was one of the first in the country to develop a testing program customized for pain management care providers.

The DetectiMed® Panel

The DetectiMed® Panel is a collection of tests from AIT custom-designed to detect the lower concentrations in more than 40 different substances necessary to monitor patients on prescribed therapies. Doctors can use DetectiMed® to verify compliance, evaluate progress, and identify potential drug misuse or addiction quickly. Plus, AIT continually improves existing methods and develops new methods to detect lower levels of drugs and new drugs entering the market.

Established as a forensic toxicology lab almost twenty years ago, AIT is now recognized as a leading laboratory in the nation for postmortem/trace analysis. The company’s expertise in this area enables AIT to utilize equipment and processes specifically for pain management testing.

The DetectiMed® Panel includes:

Results in as little as 72 hours, including quantitative confirmation on positive samples:
First, DetectiMed® uses an immunoassay screen to determine the presence of drugs featured in a dozen general drug classes, including alcohol, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, fentanyl, methadone, opiates, phencyclidine, and propoxyphene. A confirmation test is performed on all positive screens, providing unambiguous identification and quantitation of all substances present in the specimen. View our panels for urine and blood.

Specimen collection kits:
Our starter kits ensure your office has everything you need to work with your patients.

  •  Welcome packet with important documents to guide you through the collection process
  •  5 instant cups
  •  5 specimen bags
  •  5 patient requisition forms
  •  5 UPS shipping bags
  •  5 EZ-return shipping labels

Instant cup to identify abuse:
While all samples must be shipped to the lab for testing, identifying misuse before you hand over a 30-day script is crucial. Specifically designed for AIT, our leak-proof, instant cup can identify popular drugs of abuse and a number of urinary adulterants in a matter of minutes. Substances tested include amphetamines, buprenorphine, cannabinoids, cocaine, ecstasy, opiates, and oxycodone.

Once the sample is collected, just send it to AIT, at which time the sample is screened and confirmed using our state-of-the-art instrumentation. In the meantime, you can fill a script for a shorter timeframe, reserving judgment on whether a patient is compliant or non-compliant until you receive the detailed laboratory report.

Concerned about adulteration?
DetectiMed® includes creatinine analysis to weed out specimens that may have been manipulated or diluted. AIT also offers a complete adulteration panel that includes creatinine, pH, specific gravity, nitrites, and chromates.
