Patient information for patients receiving compliance testing

FAQs for Patients

Q. Why am I being tested?
A. There are two primary reasons:

  • Patient safety is of the utmost importance to your healthcare practitioner (HCP). Compliance testing is one of the most reliable tools for detecting possible harmful drug interactions. Knowing which drugs are present or absent in your system helps prevent potentially dangerous outcomes resulting from your treatment plan.
  • Compliance testing is an important diagnostic tool for your HCP. It provides important insight into your treatment program and allows for informed decisions about your medical care. This information can help your HCP to better understand whether a medication is adequate to treat your pain and to make the necessary adjustments that ensure better quality of life.

Q. How does the testing process work?
A. Your blood and/or urine will be screened using highly specialized equipment to detect the presence of any drugs requested by your HCP; drugs that test positive on the initial screen will be confirmed using state-of-the-art technology. Once all testing has been completed (usually within three to five business days after receiving the sample), your physician will receive the results of your test. Due to regulations set forth by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), AIT is only authorized to provide results to the individual or company who ordered the test—in this case, your HCP. To obtain and discuss your results, please contact your physician.

Q. How can I be sure that my results will be accurate?
A. AIT Laboratories has been selected by your HCP because of our comprehensive test panels, sensitivity, industry-leading quality standards, and strict chain of custody, which ensure the accuracy of every test result. AIT uses our DetectiMed® Panel for prescription drug testing in conjunction with additional tests requested by your HCP to provide an understanding of which drugs are present or absent in your system.

Q. How much will this test cost?
A. For patients with insurance: Once all testing has been completed, AIT will file a claim for services rendered on the date of your office visit. As a result, you will receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your insurance company. Please note that an EOB is not a bill. Instead, it serves to explain the services you received during an office visit. If a balance is due, you will receive a separate invoice from AIT Laboratories stating the amount owed and the date payment is due. AIT has relationships with an extensive number of insurance networks and offers flexible payment options to best meet your needs. For more information, call us at 800 875-3894 and ask to speak with a billing specialist.

For patients without insurance: AIT’s billing department features highly trained specialists who will work with you one-on-one to determine which flexible payment plans are available to you. To learn more, call 800 875-3894 and ask to speak with a billing specialist.
