Designer Drug Testing – Compliance

Prevent the next wave of abuse in your community with synthetic designer drug testing

Two of the most talked-about drugs in the news today are bath salts and “fake pot” products like K2/Spice. The United States is dealing with increased synthetic designer drug use due to their accessibility and ability to produce “legal highs.”

Designer Drugs Compliance imageSince these drugs are so new, many healthcare practitioners don’t know their effect on prescribed medications or how to distinguish the substances from their regulated counterparts.

AIT does. We are among the first toxicology labs in the country to test for bath salts and synthetic marijuana as part of our compliance testing menu. Our synthetic drug expertise is regularly sought after by media and has been instrumental in strengthening designer drug laws in Indiana.

Why You Should Test for Designer Drugs

Because designer drugs are often unregulated, their potency can’t be controlled or verified. Bath salts mimic the same high as methamphetamine, LSD or cocaine, and K2/Spice's reported effects include increased paranoia, severely impaired motor skills and inhibited cognitive function – all after just one use. The Synthetic Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 2012 (see page 138) outlaws about 30 chemical structures and allows law enforcement officials to act on new formulations outside of those listed in the bill.

Bath salts and synthetic marijuana testing is available in urine for healthcare practitioners monitoring patient compliance. Each test can be ordered in conjunction with our DetectiMed® Panel.
